Weddings:
A wedding is an important part of life. Being surrounded by friends and loved ones, promising to commit to each other the joys as well as the sorrows of life is an experience long remembered.
We believe that the wedding ceremony is a worship service. As such, the primary focus for the ceremony, while obviously directed to the couple getting married, must be on Jesus Christ. While loving sentiment is an important part of the service, it also involves making a clear witness to one’s faith in the context of the larger Christian community. We do not wish for people to exchange vows before God, family and friends that do not reflect a Christian view of life and marriage. The wedding ceremony, and the marriage, is to acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus Christ in every aspect of life.
All details concerning the wedding and related arrangements must conform to such practices that are consistent with Christian customs of our church.
The senior minister of the First Congregational Church will officiate at all weddings.
